Bakelite is a moulded synthetic resin characterized by excellent dimensional and temperature stability, and an enormous insulating capacity against electric current.

Bakelite began to replace porcelain electrical accessories in the early 1930s. Older bakelite is brown, brown-black or black, but from the 40s and 50s it is also available in white.

Black porcelain sockets

Classic surface-mounted electrical outlet in black porcelain in a design that was common in Europe during the first half of the 20th century.

In the side of the bottom there is an opening for cable outlet for surface-mounted electrical wiring, but the outlet can also be mounted for recessed wall outlet in combination with one of Fontini’s base plates.

For surface mounting on wood paneling or other flammable material, an insulating plastic base plate can be used as extra fire protection.
