Intended for ventilation of foundations, so-called catholes, room valves in walls, etc. Note that the valve in the picture is treated with linseed oil and has a darker color than an untreated valve that is graphite gray in color.

Many people ask us whether ground vents should be open or closed in winter. We usually answer that if you live in the house and it is heated all year round, the valves should be closed during the cold season to take advantage of the heat from the ground. If, on the other hand, the house is unheated, it is advisable to keep the vents open so that there is a draught under the house. Otherwise, condensation can easily form on the underside of the floors when the warm air from the ground meets the cold floor, which can result in rot, mold and fungal attack. If the house is a holiday home, which is hot sometimes and cold sometimes, it is therefore wise to always leave the basic valves open.
