Type of paint: Sludge paint for outdoor use made from pigment, stone ground rye flour and water. Linseed oil added in all colors except Red Ochre.

Characteristics: Lightweight. Opaque. Easy to renew and maintain.

Suitable for: Unplaned timber, old or new. Adheres best to timber and sawn surfaces. If you want to paint on planed surfaces, these can be left unpainted for a year so that the wood surface has time to rise first. Excellent on previously sludge-painted surfaces. Sludge paint also adheres to gutters, valve grilles, list covers and other details of galvanized sheet metal. Leave the sheet unpainted for one or two winters first, and the paint will adhere better.

Our sludge paint can be painted over on previously sludge painted surfaces with Gysinge sludge paint or similar sludge paint types. If in doubt – ask us first.

Consumption: One liter is enough for 3-5 square meters on a normally absorbent surface. Note! Expect a 25 percent increase in the actual facade area of an unpaneled log house or a house with a thick cover strip panel. When repainting, two coats are usually required. When repainting, one is usually enough.

Colors: The paint is available in about ten basic colors. The basic colors can also be mixed together to create other shades. Unlike the other colors, white sludge paint should not be painted unbroken, as it quickly becomes ugly as it ages. Before any color change, the surface should be scrubbed clean of loose pigments and paint layers, preferably with Gysinge’s paint wash and rinsed with water.

Gloss: Matt.

Durability: First time 5-10 years. When repainted 10-15 years.

Thinning: Not normally needed. However, sometimes the paint may be too thick in the can. Then you can dilute with water to normal consistency.

Tools: Horn sucker or painting brush.

Drying time: Normally 1-2 hours. Overpaintable after 24 hours at the earliest.

Storage: Cool but frost-free. If stored for a long time, the paint may thicken. The paint may mold if the jar is left open for a long time.

Brush wash: Water and linseed oil soap.

Repainting

1. Leave the house unpainted for a year. This will give the twigs time to bleed and horny areas time to dry out so that the paint adheres better.

2. Brush off dust and dirt. Rinse with cold water. Let the facade dry before painting.

3. stir the paint well. If the paint is to be broken, empty all the paint into a container and stir well.

4. paint lightly, but still apply the paint firmly to the surface. Paint that is too thick will flake. Dilute the paint in the first coat with up to 15-20% water to ensure thin layers. The second coat is painted with undiluted paint after at least 24 hours drying time.

Repainting

1. Brush off old paint with a piassa brush or soft hand brush. Rinse with cold water. Be sure to rinse off any old pigment residue. Leave to dry.

2. paint the paint in a fluid manner, but still apply it in very thin layers. Remember that paint that is applied too thickly will flake. Allow to dry.

Repainting and color change

1. Water the surface with a hose and soft jet. If the surface is pre-watered, it will later

2. Brush or roll on a solution of Gysinge Paint Wash diluted with warm or lukewarm water. Leave the paint cleaner to work for a few minutes and then scrub off any loose paint with scrubbing brushes dipped in the wash water. Be particularly careful in sheltered areas, such as under roof cracks, otherwise the layers of paint may become too thick and the paint may peel.

3. Rinse off all loose particles and detergent with clean, preferably lukewarm water.

Leave to dry.

4. paint lightly, but still apply the paint firmly to the surface. Paint that is too thick will flake. Dilute the paint in the first coat with up to 15-20% water to ensure thin layers. The second coat is painted with undiluted paint after at least 24 hours drying time.

Remember:

– The paint must be well spread. If thick layers are applied, it will inevitably flake.

– Do not paint in bright sunshine or rain.

– Do not paint if the night-time temperature is below +4°C.

Sludge paint Red ochre without linseed oil

Light red sludge paint with a tendency towards brick color. Without linseed oil additive. During the 18th and early 19th centuries, it is believed that this particular shade of light brick red was the most common among red-colored buildings. It was often combined with oil-painted details such as window and door frames in light gray instead of unbroken white.

Nearest NCS S 4040-Y70R

The red color comes from burnt mining slag or clay containing iron oxide. Colors other than red were also commonly used as sludge color until the beginning.

However, if you are absolutely sure that there was no linseed oil in the previous paint, or when repainting, Rödockra sludge paint without linseed oil works perfectly well.

Sludge paint Red ochre with linseed oil

Light red sludge color with a tendency towards brick color. Very common color. Perhaps the most common in Swedish building tradition. Based on rye flour and contains linseed oil.

We recommend Rödockra sludge paint with linseed oil when you are going to paint a previously painted facade, as the previous paint probably contained linseed oil of unknown concentration, and our sludge paint without linseed oil has a poorer adhesion to this type.

However, if you are absolutely sure that there was no linseed oil in the previous paint, or when repainting, Rödockra sludge paint without linseed oil works perfectly well.

Sludge paint Natural white

Warm white color. Intended only to break other colors, e.g. yellow mud, oxide green and green umber. White sludge paint should not be painted unbroken, as it has less resistance without color pigments in it. The more white you have in a color, the faster the color ages. We do not recommend a break with more than 20% white.
